Who am I - Goldele Rayment

I am a director, dramaturge, writer and teaching artist. I work in the independent theatre sector, community arts and cultural development, education and most recently am writing my first screenplay and children’s picture book. My directing career has focused on working dramaturgically with playwrights and artists on new works, both scripted and devised. Notably directing the Green Room Award-winning production “Koo Koo the Bird Girl” (Melbourne Fringe 2018). In 2018 I was a Young Artist (Director) with Pacific Opera and am excited to be expanding my work into opera and musical theatre.

As a Teaching Artist, I have taught adults and youth in a wide variety of contexts and topics, including acting and script analysis, physical theatre & group devising, storytelling and Theatre of the Oppressed. I have facilitated workshops with High Schools for the Canberra Theatre Centre, the NSW Department of Education, Catholic and independent schools. I have taught young adults and youth with disabilities and at-risk youth with Marian Street Theatre for Young People, Shopfront Youth Arts and the NSW Department of Justice. In 2021, I was the Manager of Children’s and Leisure programs at Perform Australia.

In 2015, I founded award-winning independent theatre Rogue Projects (previously Company of Rogues) and was its Artistic Director until February 2019. From 2014-16, I was the Artistic Program Coordinator at the Milk Crate Theatre. During this time, I managed and taught in their theatre workshop and professional pathways programs for people who have experienced homelessness, as well as acting as director and dramaturg on several productions.

In 2014 I was the recipient of professional development funding from Accessible Arts during which I trained with Zen Zen Zo and Back to Back Theatre. I graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts, on the Dean’s Honors List, at Monash University in 2007.

My recent directing credits include: “Help Wanted” (Perform Australia, Canberra 2022), “Deadly Games of Marbles” (The Acting Company for the Vietnam Veterans Society, Museum of Australian Democracy, Canberra 2021), “Revolution Society” (Catholic Schools Performing Arts Sydney, 2019); “Last Night of The Proms” (Willoughby Symphony Orchestra & Pacific Opera, 2019); “Koo Koo The Bird Girl” (with Sarah Houbolt, Melbourne Fringe 2018); “The Mad Hatters Tea Party” and “Sing Along Les Miserable”  (Beyond Cinema, 2018);  “Prelude in Tea – Mother’s Day Concert” (Pacific Opera,  Independent Theatre 2018); “Morgan Stern” (Company of Rogues, Queensland Theatre, Belvoir Street, Edinburgh Fringe, Blood Moon Theatre 2016-17), “Turning Towers” ( Milk Crate Theatre, 2016), “The Typists”  (Producer/Performer-The Exchange Hotel Balmain, 2015); “This House Is Mine” –  (Dramaturg, Darlinghurst Theatre & Milk Crate Theatre, 2014-15); “Out of Line” – (Dramaturge, Shopfront Contemporary Youth Arts and ATYP, 2014).
